Watch for the film!

Good news, Etelle Higonnet's forceful film (now called The Invisible Crime) divulging the widespread use of rape as a political weapon in Côte d'Ivoire, is in final production and will be aired this Spring on French television. I have collaborated on this project as the promotional identity, exhibit and collateral designer. Web site, poster and t-shirts to come. Stay tuned!

Le film coup de poing d'Etelle Higonnet (maintenant intitulé Le Crime Invisible) sur l'utilisation généralisée de viol comme arme de guerre en Côte d'Ivoire, va passer à la télévision française au printemps. J'y collabore depuis des années en tant que créatrice de l'identité visuelle et promotionnel du film. Il y aura bientôt le site web, des t-shirts et l'affiche à découvrir. Is it the joy of finding you here? The pleasure of knowing I would get this site up and running or is it just the happiness of being on vacation with my family in California last year when this was snapped? Thanks to my sister, Christine, for capturing me on film with the rhino. And, no, I do not always dress to match the upholstery.

Just look at this bridal couple patiently biding their time between the cheese and ham. I snapped this photo in a wee bakery-grocery shop high in the hills of Montigny-en-Morvan in Burgundy, France, a town with a population under 400. Doesn't it make you wonder what comes next?

Regardez ces jeunes mariés attendant calmement entre le fromage et la charcuterie. J'ai pris cette image dans une minuscule boulangerie-épicerie haut dans les collines de Montigny-en-Morvan, village bourguignon de moins de 400 habitants. Imaginons la suite !

I had the pleasure of being commissioned by a specialty furniture company in California who have inlaid marbletop tables manufactured to order for them by craftsmen in India. They wanted to explore the use of this ancient technique in a contemporary application. I was given carte blanche to take that idea and play with it. What a treat!

My proposal was a modular coffee table (well, modular when ordered, marble tabletops and bases can't just be scooted about!) comprised of several tops and several bases. These could be mixed and matched to the client's taste and décor. The bases, being square, could be turned to show different motifs on different sides. There were many combinations possible, allowing for a bigger collection with a given set of pieces. Unfortunately, the economic skid has put a temporary hold on the production. But these won't melt, so I am patient. A fine client to work with who offered trust, freedom and commitment.

J'ai eu l'immense plaisir d'être engagée pour créer des tables en marqueterie de marbre, fabriquées par des artisans en Inde pour une société spécialisée en meubles design en Californie. Elle voulait utiliser cet art ancien dans un langage contemporain. J'avais carte blanche pour explorer à ma guise. Quelle délice !

J'ai proposé une série d'éléments, hauts de table et bases assorties, qui pouvaient se marier de maintes façons en tournant les bases pour faire apparaître des motifs variés. Malheureusement, la lenteur de l'économie, ô combien en Californie, a stoppé la production pour l'instant. Mais je me dis que le marbre ne fondera pas, donc je peux attendre. En tout état de cause, c'est un client bien apprécié pour la confiance et la liberté qu'il m'a offert avec cette commande.
